Inspired by the varied spaces that the beginnings of the practice took place in (cafes, pubs, public spaces etc), the RADS office is the likely product of those early incubator sessions. Integrating the energy and animation that those common meeting spaces embody was key to creating an authentic studio space that also reflected our values (that have carried forward to today). Needing to be a place for both open communication and collaboration, the space reflects the way that we operate. The oversized and welcoming island provides commercial utility and also acts as a meeting and social space, while also feeling residential in scale. The sounds and aromas from the coffee machine meet the movement of nearby offices and buzz of being within the outskirts of the city. Combining robust polished concrete floors and generous glazing, the openness of the space is broken up with timber to soften edges. As a studio environment, the flexibility in the planning of the space makes it ideal as a place to come together as a team, with clients and collaborators, for work and social meetings and as a place to learn and grow.
