Description

Located in Parkside, just outside the Adelaide CBD, this row cottage has been reimagined to suit the lifestyle of a young professional who frequently travels for work. Designed to function both as a personal home and lease-able accommodation, the project balances versatility and flexibility, with a sense of ‘home’. The original cottage underwent significant repairs to restore and reinstate its historic charm, while modern updates bring a contemporary touch. A central wet area buffer allows natural light and ventilation to flow into the serene bathroom, which opens to a private garden courtyard—carving out a tranquil and quiet retreat within the centre of the home. Material choices were carefully selected for their broad appeal and suitability to the era of the home and to a modern relevance. Combining raw materials that offer thermal mass and enhance energy efficiency with other layers of texture, the design retains the cottage's character. It was important to also introduce a modern and familiar warmth that would feel inviting for a broad guest offering. Full of thoughtful details, this home combines traditional charm with modern comforts, providing a perfect blend of style and practicality. Located close to city amenities and lifestyle options, the cottage offers an ideal base for both living and hosting, making it a versatile and appealing space.
