As a reimagined beach house located in the historic area of Pt Willunga, Alfred was designed to embrace the laid-back Aussie beach culture and an outdoor lifestyle. Alfred takes an architecturally designed home from 2004 and increases the external living spaces to reflect the families desire to be outdoors. For a family of surfers, the outdoors is a way of life, and being able to easily access the beach, coming home to a warm outdoor shower with a place to put the boards and rinse out the wetsuit was the integral to the brief. A dedicated lower outdoor lounge area (framed by crazy paving) creates multiple zones for entertaining, separated by lush planter beds and screening for privacy between the living areas and bedrooms, and a new entry boardwalk provides additional seclusion while guiding visitors through the water-sensitive and lush garden. As Pt Willunga has evolved into a highly desirable coastal community, Alfred has been updated to reflect this shift, incorporating sandstone retaining walls that elevate and frame the outdoor living experience for the family of five, while continuing the existing connection to the coast.
